Intra-Africa Regional Cooperation

MNF promotes and facilitates cooperation amongst African countries.

Peacemaking, Conflict Prevention and Resolution

MNF participated as the Secretariat of the Burundi Peace Negotiation from 1996-2000 under the facilitation of the Late Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere, and later under the Late President Nelson Mandela of South Africa, which led to the signing of the Burundi Peace Agreement in August 2000 in Arusha, Tanzania.

MNF played a consultative role on Zanzibar Political Crisis which culminated in the CCM and CUF peace accord in 2001.

In 2004, MNF was appointed as coordinator of Civil Society input to the International Conference of the Great Lake Regional Summit on peace, security, democracy, and Development. The Foundation is an observer to the General Assembly of International Conference of the Great Lakes Region, since 2015 up to present.

MNF has been organizing and conducting National Dialogue countrywide since 1999 up to the present time. The Foundation promotes and facilitates dialogue among the people and governments, when feasible, on ideas and action oriented proposals on peacemaking and conflict prevention.

Study of Mwalimu Principles

MNF promotes the study of principles adopted and practiced by Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere throughout his life. It collects and catalogues documents, letters, speeches, interviews, reports and other information concerning him. It also allows access and use of them by interested institutions, individual persons, and or organize their publication or exhibition in whole or in part.

African Development Growth

MNF promotes and advocates development which builds the capacity and capabilities of Africa for growth and sustainable development in the 21st Century

Promote South-South Co-operation, and North South-Relation.

MNF promotes and facilitates the building and sustenance of constructive relations between Africa and other countries of the global South, while also promoting international understanding through the United Nations and its specializing agencies in particular as relates to development and trade issues, and advocates the reform of international political, financial and economic institutions that are currently dominated by the developed North.

The Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation Leadership and Management Institute

The Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation is in the process of establishing a Leadership and Management Institute, whose main objective will be to study the principles and philosophy that Mwalimu Julius Nyerere practiced and believed in. The Institute will attract various scholars, leaders and persons from all walks of life interested in the subject of leadership, to engage in the critical study of the principles and philosophy espoused by the Late Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, with the views of finding answers to questions of leadership, democratic governance, and development in the context of the Foundation’s objectives, namely Peace, Unity and People Centred Development, as they relate to present day Tanzania, Africa and the World.
